Location & Surroundings

Situated in the Bernese Oberland at the end of the Kandertal valley and at 1,800 meters above sea level, this quiet holiday village with all its wooden chalets offers the approx. 1,230 inhabitants not only a village character of its own, but also unique views of the famous Blümlisalp massif. In terms of area, Kandersteg is one of the fourth largest communes in the Canton of Berne, but due to its alpine location only about 30% of it can be used.

Formerly situated as an overnight spot on the spice trade route coming from Italy via the Lötschenpass, Kandersteg today is characterised by year-round tourism. As an extremely varied nature and hiking paradise in Summer, Winter is the focus here in the name of Nordic skiing and offers guests a wide range of different accommodations. Also worthy of mention is the gastronomy, which is a treat for the palate, because in Kandersteg there are no less than three gourmet guilds.

With the famous deep blue lake Oeschinen, the challenging Allmenalp via ferrata, the beautiful Gastern valley and the Gemmi Pass, Kandersteg is part of the extended UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. In addition to the Lötschbergbahn car transport service, Kandersteg is also home to the international meeting place of the World Scout Association (WOSM), the Kandersteg Scout Centre.

All important services from the post office, the Coop branch via the two banks BEKB or Spar- und Leihkasse Frutigen to the bakery are just around the corner near the railway station. From there, the bus to Frutigen or the BLS in the direction of Spiez/Interlaken, Spiez/Thun or in the opposite direction through the Lötschberg in the direction of Goppenstein also runs. The swimming pool is just a stone's throw away from the Hotel Bernerhof as well.


Hotel Bernerhof
The Chalet-Hotel Bernerhof lies in the middle of Kandersteg, surrounded by all the important services, hiking trails and mountain railways, with a fascinating view of the surrounding mountains. In Winter, the local cross-country ski trail starts directly in front of the hotel.

The Bernerhof has a total of 45 rooms and 11 apartments - one of which is also "our" unusual Bijou. In addition to the "fine" wellness oasis, various rooms or the garden terrace invite you to linger. The warm hospitality of the family Lehmann and their dedicated team is particularly noteworthy.

The approx. 66 m² penthouse apartment is conveniently located on the 3rd floor and can be reached by lift or stairs. Originally built as a 2-room-apartment, the current owners have subsequently divided up the bedroom - so right after the closed entrance there is the "bedroom zone". The children's room is equipped with two beds, further sleep possibilities offer the gallery directly above, under the roof. Besides you reach the main bedroom with a direct entrance into the - likewise subsequently built in - bathroom with bathtub. The second bathroom - equipped with shower cabin and bidet - is located in the entrance area. With the installation of the second bedroom and bathroom, the conversion to galleries and the entire wooden floor, the current owners have always kept their jewel in good shape.
