In September RE/MAX Oberwallis was able to celebrate the coveted RE/MAX award "Best Office of the month". Markus Furrer, Broker Owner or Site Manager, and his team cover a total of five areas (Brig-Glis, Zermatt, Visp, Saas-Fee and Leukerbad). A sixth area (Goms) is being planned. We are currently looking for an experienced real estate agent for this purpose. Because in the RE/MAX Oberwallis team it is common for each broker to look after their own area. The team is particularly proud that a team member, Elmar Mathieu, also received the “Best Agent” award from RE/MAX Switzerland in September. Elmar Mathieu is responsible for the Leukerbad area. A double success for the entire team. In the interview you can find out more about these successful real estate agents in Upper Valais.
The interview with the RE/MAX Oberwallis team
What does receiving “Best Office of the Month” award in September mean for you?
Team: We are very proud of the award! It confirms that we are doing our job well and that our customers trust us.
Elmar, In Septemeber you also won “Best Broker of the month” what makes you special as a broker?
Elmar: I enjoy going to work every day and I love exchanging ideas with my customers. I am always there for them. Often times I do a little more than is required, Going above and beyond and giving my customers the time they deserve creates trust.
So what was so special about September? How did you manage (especially during the corona pandemic) to come out ahead of other RE/MAX branches?
Team: It was our intense efforts and hard work in the previous weeks and months that paid off finally in September.
RE/MAX Switzerland provides franchise partners with a wide range of tools. Which tool is particularly helpful to your success?
Team: In the end, the right mix of tools is what really counts. It starts with the evaluation of objects. The evaluation system (IMBAS) provides us with an accurate evaluation. CRM (iList) is very helpful when it comes to comparing objects and search requests. Of course the various tools from our partners pivital in the creation of sales documents, etc. have also been extremely useful.
Why did you actually become a real estate agent, Elmar?
Elmar: At the age of 51 I had to take time off due to health problems. I had to and wanted to change something in my life. So I took the chance and started my own business as a real estate agent. Despite my fascination, the risk of self-employment had always been too high for me - as it turned out, this concern was completely unfounded.
Where does the passion for your job come from?
Elmar: What fascinates me about the job of a real estate agent is the daily contact with people and the varied activities. Despite a similar administrative process, each transaction is completely different due to the different characters of those involved and the objects on offer. It's always exciting! In my previous job as a banker, I had a lot of contact with real estate agents about financing. The insights that I got into the real estate profession fascinated me. You accompany the seller from the listing date, to marketing to finally a successful deal. Or on the other hand we accompany the buyer from the contact request, to the viewing and finally to the purchase (including financing). In the end, it’s mainly up to ME whether or not both sides have a happy ending that satisfies everyone.
How do you motivate yourself to offer customers the best possible service every day?
Elmar: You have to offer customers the best possible service if you want to generate leads and close deals. For me it is always motivating to see satisfied sellers and buyers closing a transaction. This ultimately pays off for me through recommendations and a commission.
Would you share your best experience so far as a realtor with us?
Elmar: It's always nice to see a buyer and seller happy after a transaction is completed. But the emotional moments are always particularly touching for me. Above all, I remember one story when an 80-year-old woman asked me to sell her holiday home. When the apartment was handed over to the buyers, she was so moved that she had to withdraw for a few minutes and collect herself. She later explained that in that moment, all the beautiful memories she created with her deceased husband in this holiday home had all come rushing back to her.
What tips would you give other RE/MAX brokers who dream of being awarded "Best Broker of the Month"
Elmar: A real estate agent must always maintain focus on their goal. You never stop learning. Therefore you should always try to improve yourself and orient yourself among successful colleagues. But above all, as a real estate agent, you should always put your customers first. Only satisfied customers lead to the goal in the end.
What 3 tips would you give a franchise partner who is new to the Real estate market?
- Consistent and profesional processing at an expert level.
- Trust the "market-driven" determination of all sales prices.
- The Selling process really only starts when the customer first says “No”. Meaning now is the chance. The first interested party rarely ever ends up with the property.
At RE/MAX, continuous training is an important success factor in order to be able to advise customers optimally. What do you specialize in? Where are you total experts?
Team: Our team has very different «expert knowledge» through our various careers (trust, banking, leasing, administration & appraising). We support each other with an open dialogue.
And what makes your team unique?
Team: The Upper Valais is relatively small. Nevertheless, everyone has their own area of expertise and thus their very own “own” market. The market in the valley is different than in the tourist hotspots. Nevertheless, we all "speak" the same language. We are open to trying new things and we always support each other at joint advertising appearances. At the moment we can be seen on the local television at Upper Valais with our real estate guide.
What do you wish for the future?
Team: Of course at the moment our main wish is to stay healthy and get through Corona safely. But we also hope that our great team spirit will remain and that we will continue to enjoy our work together with joy, thereby generating many satisfied customers. If that holds true then we are happy and if sales are good then all the better.
